The Unwritten Tale of Orson and Runa
Orson loved books more than biscuits, more than bikes, and certainly more than bathing. He loved the smell of old paper and the crinkle of a brand new page.
One rainy afternoon, searching for a forgotten tale, he found a small, dusty volume tucked high up on the shelf. It was bound in faded blue velvet and smelled of quiet corners.
He brushed off the dust and carefully opened the cover. Inside, the pages were empty, except for one tiny, trembling word written in beautiful, swirling ink: “Hello?”
“Hello, little friend,” Orson whispered. He didn’t know what Runa was, but he knew she was the most interesting thing he had ever found in a book. Runa chirped, a sound like turning a thin page.
"You need a story," Orson decided. He closed his eyes and began to read the smell of the pages, the feel of the cover, and the sound of the rain outside.
A shimmer, a rustle, a pop! Orson’s bedroom melted away. His lamp post became a towering, gnarled oak tree, and his blue rug turned into a flowing, gentle stream.
"You did it!" Runa cried, fluttering around his head. "You read the unwritten tale!" The air was now thick with the scent of wild mint and old adventures.
Orson grinned, the bravest grin he’d ever made. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pencil. "Well then, Runa," he said, "let's give this place an ending."
He scribbled a bridge across the stream and drew a moon that was made of melted gold. He drew a friendly dragon named ‘Flicker’ and a path that led to a mountain of ice cream.
The story was no longer empty. It was full of Orson's joy and Runa's light. And all it took was one curious boy, one tiny friend, and the simple magic of opening a book.
